Abusers like Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) thrive on control. But that control is slipping fast in tonight’s Coronation Street when her decision to terminate her pregnancy is uncovered by two Weatherfield residents…

While Megan may seem like a friendly athletics coach, under the veneer of respectability is a paedophile who has used her position of power to groom underage Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) into an illicit relationship. Will has been coerced into believing that he’s in a loving relationship, reluctantly lying to his family and sneaking around behind everyone’s back.

His family, totally unaware of Megan’s true intention, has unwittingly facilitated Megan’s abuse by paying for her to have ‘one on one’ private coaching sessions with Will.

Not only that, but she’s started dating teacher Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) as the perfect cover, so nobody will suspect her twisted trysts with a schoolboy.

This has driven Will wild with jealousy, so much so that he brutally attacked Daniel from behind and left him for dead on Boxing Day.

So far, Megan’s managed to control Will’s jealousy with a careful balance of carrot and stick; rewarding him when he is good, and withdrawing affection when he steps out of line.

But there’s one thing this arch manipulator didn’t count on – Mother nature. Because Daniel discovered a pregnancy testing kit in her purse. Now it looks like Megan’s got a baby on the way… and Will could be the father.

In today’s instalment, Daniel discovered a rude symbol spray painted on Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) car.

It didn’t take Megan very long to work out that Will probably had something to do with it. She confronted him in the ginnel, and he was further annoyed later in the day as he got suspended from school.

Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) begged Daniel to lift the suspension, noting that he’s got a huge athletics tournament coming up. Daniel refused during this conversation, but was left torn after some manipulation by Megan.

Heading out of the ginnel, Megan decided to call the abortion clinic and made an appointment. It seems her mind is already made up.

However, it looks like it’s just a matter of time before Megan’s secret is exposed.

Executive Producer Kate Brooks recently discussed how Megan’s story will affect some of the biggest characters on the Street once her secret is exposed, including Leanne, her sister Toyah Battersby and Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan)

‘It is just the tip of the iceberg and we’ll follow the Will and Megan element quite closely. It’s a very important story to tell and we want to be as truthful as possible. As part of that story Sam will end up getting embroiled in it all. Sam is semi-related to the pub family and he potentially gets wind that something’s amiss. We will see the lengths that Megan will go to manipulate Sam into keeping quiet. It’ll be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing’

‘As we explore all of that we have Eva in the mix who will be naturally furious if this ever comes to light. Then you’ve got Leanne and Toyah. These three very strong, very fiery women, sisters, whose boys have been manipulated by this woman who they considered their friend. Needless to say it’ll be quite explosive when this all comes to light.’
