The RBC Canadian Open is likely not going to be an exciting tournament. How, you ask? Well, it’s because multiple players have already withdrawn from the event, including 2025 Mexico Open champion Brian Campbell, who suffered a shoulder injury. Campbell’s withdrawal was followed by others, including K.H. Lee, Brandon Matthews, and Hayden Springer, among others. And as fate would have it, we have another name joining the long list of withdrawals.

The PGA Tour winners Ben Martin and Michael Kim are also pulling out. Kim cited a need for a week off ahead of the U.S. Open, having struggled with a back injury during the Truist Championship last month. However, he later recovered to feature in three subsequent PGA Tours. With these withdrawals, new players are getting opportunities, including rookie David Ford, who will make his professional debut after finishing top of the PGA Tour University Class of 2025. Gordon Sargent and Luke Clanton will also make their professional debuts this week, as another one bites the dust.

In his latest Instagram post, Sahith Theegala shared the disappointing news of his withdrawal from the RBC Canadian Open, one of his favorite events of the year. “The place looks beautiful and I’ve heard so many great things about the golf course and the facility overall,” he said, expressing his excitement about playing the new venue, TPC Toronto. Unfortunately, doctors have advised him to take a break and get treatment for an injury he’s been battling.

“The doctors have advised me to put the clubs away for a little while, as I get treatment and some rest,” Theegala explained. He wished the RBC Canadian Open a wonderful week, thanking his fans and sponsors for their continued support, saying, “Wishing my great friends @rbc a wonderful week… Thank you to my fans and sponsors for your continued support. See you all soon!!”

The 27-year-old has tried to play through the pain of a neck injury this season. After missing the cut at last week’s Memorial, he has been advised to take time off at the most unfortunate juncture in the schedule. This is his third time withdrawing from an injury in his last five starts. While fans are excited to see the golfer, they are worried about his well-being as well.

Fans and PGA Tour pros wish Sahith Theegala a ‘speedy recovery’

Starting off strong with what one fan said, “Rest up, Sahith. Can’t wait to see you back out there doing what you do best,” as Tony Finau echoed the same sentiments, writing, “Healthy and speedy recovery brother! 🙏🏾.”  Well, this isn’t the first tournament Theegala has withdrawn from this year. The golfer withdrew from the PGA Championship due to a neck injury, marking his second consecutive withdrawal. He had arrived at Quail Hollow Club just a day after pulling out of the Truist Championship, where he played three rounds before withdrawing due to the same injury. Alex Smalley took his place in the PGA Championship field.
Jhonattan Vegas also commented on his post, “Get better buddy. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽”, as Akshay Bhatia’s soon-to-be wife, Presleigh Schultz, showed her disappointment on the news with emojis, 😢😢 while Bhatia himself wrote, “Always supporting.” Well, Schultz has always been loud with the support she has for others and especially for her fiancé, Akshay Bhatia, whom she’s been watching play golf and cheering on, even witnessing his first victory at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic in January 2022. Their relationship started with a meet-cute and has blossomed into an everyday thing, with Schultz’s Instagram bio proudly declaring, “I’m somewhere watching Akshay Bhatia golf.” After just a year of getting to know each other, the couple decided to take the plunge and commit to it forever.
❤❤,” commented Juju Chan, Theegala’s girlfriend. Well, Chan is a supportive girlfriend and a fierce one, shutting down trolls who blamed her for her boyfriend’s poor performance with a dismissive Instagram reel. In the clip, she appeared unbothered, applying lipstick in her car, while the caption “Why are you guys so obsessed with me?” clearly conveyed her message. The golfing community rallied behind her, with Jordan Hall and Katherine Fitzpatrick, wives of PGA Tour pros, praising her for calling out the trolls, with comments like, “It’s never our fault” and “They should be obsessed with you.”
