Since the Vatican has announced his death, tributes have been pouring in from all over the world, including from the U.S. Vice President JD Vance and King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
King Charles, JD Vance and more pay tribute to Pope Francis
Pope Francis died at his residence, Domus Sanctae Marthae, a day after celebrating Easter and making an appearance at the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Square. The Vatican camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, announced the news in a statement.
“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the Triune God,” part of the statement says. (via NBC New York)
In the ensuing hours, tributes have been pouring in from various parts of the world. JD Vance, who is a Catholic and met the Pope over the Easter weekend, mentioned their interaction in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him,” he shared, adding, “I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful.”
Meanwhile, King Charles III and Queen Camilla met the late Pope Francis about a couple of weeks ago. A statement released by Buckingham Palace mentioned that the royal couple was “deeply saddened” by the Pope’s death. (via BBC)
