Judgment day has come to Coronation Street. A sweet family moment for the Platts is interrupted when the police break down the door and arrest Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) on suspicion of murder.
It’s been a long time coming. Ever since Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) was found dead, every Coronation Street fan has been asking the same question – whodunnit?
After leading us a merry dance by teasing six suspects each with a murderous motive and plenty of opportunity, Coronation Street pulled the rug right from under its audience by revealing that it was in fact, none of them… because it was Sarah all along.
On the night in question, Theo corned a terrified Sarah on the scaffolding above the flat he and Todd shared. She was terrified for the welfare of her best friend Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), and during the chilling confrontation with his abusive husband, tried to convince Theo to tell her where Todd was.
But Theo turned nasty, raking up Sarah’s past relationship with Todd, the baby they lost together, and throwing all her greatest mistakes in her face. In a moment of pure rage, Sarah picked up a metal pipe as Theo advanced and swung it at him, sending the monster falling off the scaffolding to his death on the Cobbles.
Since that night, Sarah has watched fellow Corrie residents such as Todd, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) , Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) face the Spanish Inquisition from the police over the killing.
She was even willing to let the finger of suspicion fall on Gary Windass (Mikey North), her ex-boyfriend and her partner in crime. The bad boy builder was the first person Sarah called after killing Theo, and he helped her dispose of the body. This came as a huge blow to her boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), the investigating officer in Theo’s murder. He had long been suspicious of Gary, so obviously the fact that his missus was acting all cosy with a prime suspect was a bitter pill to swallow.
But Sarah was so desperate to conceal her bloody crime that she was prepared to let everyone think that she and Gary were having an affair, which Maria (Samia Longchambon) confronted her over during the dinner party from hell.
So far, Sarah has only confessed the truth about Theo’s murder to Kit, which certainly put a dampener on his planned marriage proposal. Fortunately for her, Kit is one of the most corrupt coppers ever to walk the Cobbles and is perfectly happy to frame Gary for killing Theo to save Sarah’s skin.
However, in soap land, secrets have a nasty habit of coming to the surface.Even for legacy characters like Sarah. Now after 23 years on the cobbles, Sarah is going to face serious prison time for the murder of Theo Silverton.
In this sneak-peak video, we see the moment the Platts’ happy family is shattered forever when the police barge into their home and arrest Sarah.
It’s a sweet family scene as Sarah, David (Jack P Shepherd), Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and Harry (Joshua Leavy) make a sweet family video together… only to discover that David didn’t press record. Frustrated, Sarah’s had enough of her brother’s shenanigans and is about to leave. That’s when her life changes forever.
A police officer breaks open the door with a battering ram. Cops swam the flat as DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) arrives to bring Sarah in. ‘Sarah Platt, I am arresting you on the suspicion of Theo Silverton’. She tells her.
As a police officer slaps the cuffs on her, it’s a truly devasting moment for Sarah to be arrested for murder in front of her brother, sister and daughter.
Is this the end of Sarah?
