Matt Dumba could be headed to the minors for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The defenceman has been designated non-roster by the Pittsburgh Penguins and was placed on waivers, the team announced Friday.
The move is related to an earlier trade to acquire defenceman Brett Kulak from the Edmonton Oilers.
Dumba has struggled in his first season with the Penguins, putting up one goal and three points in 11 games this year.
He was traded to Pittsburgh from the Dallas Stars in the off-season.
Over the course of his 13-year NHL career, Dumba has 85 goals and 261 points in 748 games.
The 31-year-old was selected seventh overall by the Minnesota Wild at the 2012 NHL Draft and spent 10 seasons with the team.
