Over the course of 137 episodes, Suits taught the world how to do the greenback boogie.

Nominally a legal drama, the show was in fact a pulpy soap opera dressed up as a lawyer, and it was all the more entertaining for it.

The series followed Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a genius with a photographic memory who, with the help of Senior Partner Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), cons his way into one of Manhattan’s biggest law firms.

Of course, all good things must come to an end, and after nine seasons, audiences bid farewell to the Suits crew as Harvey flew out to Seattle to join Mike at a new Seattle-based law firm.

Yet that wasn’t the end of the Suits story.

In 2023, Suits landed on Netflix in the US and became a streaming phenomenon. That year alone, it was streamed for 57.7 billion minutes and spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Nielsen streaming chart.

And no one was more surprised by the show’s resurgence than Patrick, who Metro spoke to ahead of the release of his new show, The Madison.

‘Yeah, it was shocking,’ the 44-year-old actor told me. ‘I think at the time it was kind of unheard of, right? Shows had had resurgences, but nothing like that.

‘You think a thing’s over, and then all of a sudden you’re getting stopped in airports again, and you’re like, “What is happening?”’

Sadly, for those looking to replicate Suit’s second life, Patrick isn’t sure why people fell in love with it all over again.

‘I think there was something magical about that show,’ he explained.

‘I don’t know what it was. People fell in love with those characters, and it really stood the test of time. I was so proud that it got to have another moment in the sun.’

Suits, of course, holds a special place in Patrick’s heart, admitting to me that he ‘wouldn’t be here without it’ although he did joke that it happened so long ago now that it seems like a ‘fever dream’.

Despite that, he still knows exactly what his favourite moment from filming was.

What is Patrick J Adams' new show, The Madison, about?

Created by Taylor Sheridan for Paramount Plus, and starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as Stacy and Preston, The Madison tells the story of the Clyburn family who relocate from originally from New York City to the Madison River valley in Montana after a deeply personal tragedy.

Patrick plays Russell, Stacy and Preston’s effete and ineffectual son-in-law who’s dragged across the country by his wife.

So why was Patrick keen to join the show? Well, as he said, ‘When you get an audition for a role that says Taylor Sheridan, Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell on it, you jump at that chance.’

‘It’s hard to beat the pilot episode,’he said. ‘The scene where Harvey and I are in the office, where I’m getting the job, because that was what I auditioned with. I see it on social media all the time; it’s sort of a fan favourite. That’s the scene that changed my life.’

So if Patrick’s this attached to the series, would he consider reprising the role of Mike Ross as Gabriel did recently in Suits LA?

Well, in a word: yes, there’s just one roadblock.

‘I would love to go back to Mike’s skinny ties, but I don’t think Suits LA is a show anymore,’ he said.

Thankfully, he’s got a solution. ‘It would have to be Suits: Seattle. That’s where Mike is.’

Sounds like a great spin-off to me… although they may struggle to get Rachel back.

The Madison is streaming now on Paramount Plus.
