There are sci-fi movies that age into prestige, and then there are sci-fi movies that stay fun because they were never trying to be respectable in the first place. Total Recall absolutely belongs in the second category. It is loud, weird, violent, funny, and full of the kind of go-for-broke energy that made a lot of big studio genre movies in the early ’90s so much fun to revisit. Every time it comes back around, people end up watching it again for a reason.
