Sweepstakes casinos are now off limits in Oklahoma. The state’s new law came into force on Saturday, November 1, and offering Sweeps Coin games to anyone there is now a felony.
Under Senate Bill 1589, a coin that can be cashed in for prizes now falls inside the state’s legal definition of something of value. That puts the two-coin setup behind Stake.us, Modo, McLuck and most other US sweepstakes casinos on the wrong side of Oklahoma’s gambling law. Over the course of October, sites shut off Sweeps Coins for Oklahoma accounts, and a handful pulled out altogether.
Who’s leaving, and how
Not every operator has handled the exit the same way. According to exit notices tracked by Sweepsy, some have kept a Gold Coin-only social casino running in Oklahoma, while others have shut off access completely.
| Stake.us | Closed to Oklahoma players altogether at the end of October |
| High 5 Casino | Closed to Oklahoma players altogether at the end of October |
| Modo | Sweeps Coin play and redemptions wound down by the November 1 deadline; Gold Coins and Modo Boxes stay available |
| McLuck, Hello Millions, PlayFame, SpinBlitz | Exited Oklahoma completely on November 1 |
| Carnival Citi | Oklahoma now listed in its terms as a blocked state |
| Baba Casino | Sweeps Coin play and redemptions stopped October 21; Gold Coin play stays |
| ACE Casino | Withdrew from Oklahoma on October 6 |
Stake.us is the most recognisable brand on that list. Because it is the US sweeps offshoot of Stake, the biggest name in crypto gambling, its departure will register with plenty of crypto players. You can read more about the platform in our Stake.us review.
How the ban got here
The bill cleared the state Senate without a single vote against it, only for Governor Kevin Stitt to veto it in May. His objection was that the law “criminalizes everyday apps people use for fun” and leaves businesses unsure of where they stand.
The legislature hit back within days. Senators voted 34–10 to override and the House followed 68–19, the bare minimum needed for a two-thirds majority in that chamber.
Operating a dual-currency site is now a Class C2 felony in Oklahoma, and the law’s reach extends to those who promote such platforms.
The bill also keeps any future online gambling market in the hands of Oklahoma’s tribal nations. That helps explain the tribes’ support: they run the state’s land-based casinos under compact with the state.
Part of a bigger 2026 crackdown
No other state ban passed in 2026 is still waiting to start, so Oklahoma closes out the year’s wave. Tennessee’s ban became law when the governor signed it in May, Indiana and Maine followed in July, and Louisiana in August. California has blocked sweeps play since January 1.
The 2027 sessions are already shaping up. A Pennsylvania bill filed ahead of time would make dual-currency gaming illegal, with penalties of up to $500,000.
In Wyoming, a committee is backing a wider proposal that would go after the companies sweeps sites rely on, such as payment and location-checking providers, and would cover single-coin sweeps sites too.
What it means for Oklahoma players
For Oklahoma residents, the big-name sweeps sites that served the state have now switched off Sweeps Coin play. A few still let you play with Gold Coins, but those are for fun only and carry no prize value.
If you had Sweeps Coins left over, check your account and the operator’s terms, since each site sets its own redemption cut-off and several of those dates have passed.
The ban doesn’t touch the state’s tribal casinos, its lottery or betting on horse races. Online casinos and online sportsbooks remain illegal in Oklahoma.
Our take
Outside the handful of states with regulated online casinos, sweeps sites have been the main legal way for US players to enjoy casino-style games online, including crypto-friendly brands like Stake.us. That option is shrinking one state at a time, and Oklahoma is unlikely to be the last.
With Pennsylvania and Wyoming already moving, US players should keep an eye on their own state’s 2027 legislative session. Our sweepstakes casino guide and US crypto casino guide cover where things stand today.
