‘No One Knows’: Scream’s Skeet Ulrich Reveal the One Plot Hole Nobody Can Answer

Skeet Ulrich has recently shed light on one of the biggest plot holes of the Scream franchise. Surprisingly, the answer left the fans pretty much baffled.

One of the biggest mysteries of the Scream franchise has been the death of Rose McGowan’s character, Tatum Riley. In the movie, it was shown that McGowan was trying to get away from the killer when she was killed by a closing garage door. However, the movie never revealed whether it was Stu or Billy who was responsible for McGowan’s death. With the debates continuing, Scream fans did get some closure on the plot holes.

Appearing at the Scream 30th reunion panel at Midsummer Scream, Ulrich addressed the mystery directly. “To be honest, not even [screenwriter] Kevin Williamson knows who killed [Tatum]. And he wrote the damn thing,” Ulrich said, per The Wrap. “And we never discussed it. So, it’s really fan theory, which I think is great. But, I don’t know. No one knows.”

Despite the uncertainty, Ulrich states that he believes it was his character who was responsible. That’s because Ulrich’s character was rejected by Riley for a prom date.

Did Skeet Ulrich ever return to the Scream franchise after the first movie?

Ulrich played Billy Loomis in Wes Craven’s Scream. The character later made surprise return appearances in Scream (2022) and Scream VI as a vision manifested by his daughter, Sam Carpenter. However, Ulrich did not return for Scream 7.

Elaborating about his hyped comeback into the franchise, Ulrich revealed an intriguing story. He claimed that Billy’s character was initially supposed to make a return for three movies instead of two. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly last year, the 56-year-old said,

“I’ve been vocal about that. I’m not. When we talked about coming back for 5, it was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter into the killer. Obviously, those things didn’t pan out, given certain things that happened. But, no, I know nothing about the seventh.”

Paramount Pictures has announced that Scream will return to theaters in October this year to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
