Nintendo Switch 2 Error Code 2813-0171

The Nintendo Switch 2 has released alongside flagship game Mario Kart World, but there’s an issue for many players trying to race on launch day: Error Code 2813-0171. Those trying to play are facing an error code stopping them from booting up the game. Here’s what the error code means and how users can fix it.

How to fix Nintendo Switch 2 Error Code 2813-0171

To fix Error Code 2813-0171, users must wait for Nintendo to label the game as “released.”

For whatever reason, Mario Kart World has not yet been marked as “released” for all users, making it impossible to launch the game. Switch 2 users can download it and try to boot it, but it may simply fail and show the 2813-0171 error.

Despite there already being a patch available for the game, which users can go ahead and download, the game itself can’t be played by some users.

The official Error Code 2813-0171 description reads:

When attempting to register pre-installed software to a Nintendo Account, error code 2813-0171 is displayed.

Nintendo does provide the following additional information:

This error code indicates that the pre-installed software has not been released and thus cannot be registered yet.

As mentioned above, the best course of action detailed by Nintendo is to simply “wait for the software to be released and try again.”

In what has been built up to be a monumental console launch, disgruntled fans will no doubt feel frustrated by this bump in the road. Here’s hoping it’s fixed soon so that eager day one buyers can get playing!
