New PlayStation Rewards Program Is Here, But There’s a Catch

Sony just announced and launched a new PlayStation rewards program after shutting down PlayStation Stars, and it’s not what we expected. The program ties in-game achievements to special collectibles, but they’re neither going to be free nor available worldwide. Womp, womp.

New PlayStation Rewards program has major limitations

The good news is, the collectibles in question are real-life, physical collectibles. Sony has announced that players will be able to purchase/pre-order exclusive game-themed merchandise if they unlock certain trophies. The program is being kicked off with something called “Ghost Rewards” for players who unlock the “Mono No Aware” Gold or “Living Legend” Platinum trophies in Ghost of Tsushima by December 31.

Unlocking Ghost of Tsushima’s Platinum trophy will entitle you to preorder a $25 USD / €28 commemorative pin. And those who pop the aforementioned Gold trophy can purchase an exclusive $30 t-shirt.

Oh, and, there’s a limit of one item per player.

These collectibles can only be shipped to players in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe (EU, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland), and the United Kingdom. Sony says that Ghost Rewards is “just the start,” with Ghost of Yotei Rewards arriving later this year.

I don’t know about you, but I would have preferred racking up points and redeeming them for PS Store wallet funds.
