Nintendo is planning to revive Star Fox with a new game this summer according to an insider, alongside Pikmin 4: Switch 2 Edition and Splatoon Raiders.

If you thought Fox McCloud’s confirmed appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was pretty random, Nintendo’s brand of madness might have more logic to it than it first seems.

While Star Fox is a historic franchise for Nintendo, the space rail shooter series hasn’t had a new entry since 2016’s Star Fox Zero on the Wii U, which was a notable flop.

The franchise has been largely ignored since then, beyond cameos in Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle For Atlas, but now it seems like the barrel roll king is set for a genuine comeback in 2026.

According to proven insider NateTheHate, a new Star Fox game is set to launch in ‘summer 2026’, and it should be announced over the next month. Website VGC has corroborated the same information, as well as a number of NateTheHate’s other comments.

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, NateTheHate said: ‘I’ve been told it’s a classic style Star Fox game, I’ve been told the visuals are supposed to be very good, very satisfying, and I’ve heard it does have online multiplayer.’

The mention of ‘classic style’ Star Fox presumably refers to a traditional on-rails shooter, in the same vein as the 1993 original (known as Starwing in Europe) and certain sections of 1997’s Lylat Wars (aka Star Fox 64).

Over the years, Star Fox has experimented with Zelda-style romps in Star Fox Adventures, on-foot missions in Star Fox Assault, and tower defence spin-offs in Star Fox Guard, but they’ve all been a pretty middling.

More surprisingly, NateTheHate claims this new Star Fox title will be revealed ‘before the end of May’ – in what he expects to be a surprise announcement in the same vein as Splatoon Raiders, which was revealed out of the blue on social media last year (and never mentioned again).

Elsewhere in the podcast, the insider goes onto make various claims about Switch 2’s line-up for the rest of the year. Along with Star Fox, NateTheHate claims Splatoon Raiders will launch in the summer, along with Rhythm Heaven Groove and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.

Additionally, he claims a Nintendo Switch Sports title is planned for the summer as well, but he doesnt know if it’s a brand new game or a Switch 2 Edition.

Beyond the summer, NateTheHate claims Pikmin 4: Switch 2 Edition is planned for this year, while FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods is slated for ‘late 2026’. He also said Nintendo is planning a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time for the ‘second half of 2026’.

In terms of third party titles, he claims Capcom is planning to bring Devil May Cry 5 to the Switch 2, which tracks with a recent ratings board leak.

As for when we might hear about these titles, NateTheHate says ‘it doesn’t sound like we’re getting a general Direct until the month of June’, based on ‘conversations’ he’s had. That’s surprising, considering Nintendo has typically had a general Direct in the first three months of the year and officially there’s very little confirmed for 2026 at the moment.

If this line-up turns out to be true though, it’s a pretty stacked second half of the year, which might make up for the lack of 3D Mario. As ever though, we’ll have to wait and see if all of this comes to fruition over the next few months.
