The first horror movie that immediately comes to mind is Obsession, directed by the young Curry Barker. After grossing over $475 million at the box office against a $750,000 budget — this alone is enough to make it one of the most profitable movies of all time — Obsession is now streaming on Peacock, and the film is expected to earn some Oscar nominations come next year. The other horror movie that took over the world in 2026 was Backrooms, the A24-backed feature directed by the young Kane Parsons. After grossing almost $400 million at the global box office, Backrooms is finally set to arrive on HBO Max soon.
