Netflix Just Shared Some Huge Department Q Season 2 Updates

We’ve known since 2025 that Netflix detective thriller Department Q has been renewed for a second season. But the streamer has recently confirmed that “production is now underway” in Edinburgh, and has shared brand-new cast details. 

In a statement, Netflix executives Mona Qureshi and Manda Levin said: “Scott Frank brought us best-in-class storytelling and thrilled Netflix audiences worldwide. We can’t wait to see what Morck and the gang uncover in Season 2 … Edinburgh, we’re back”. 

When is Department Q back? 

We don’t know yet. All Netflix has said so far is that “Filming has begun on Season two, so make sure to stay tuned for more details on the next cold case that Morck and co. will be cracking”.

Who’s in the cast of Department Q season 2? 

Familiar faces include: 

Matthew Goode as Detective Carl Morck, Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim, Leah Byrne as DC Rose Dickson, Jamie Sives as DS James Hardy, Kelly Macdonald as Dr Rachel Irving,Kate Dickie as Moira Jacobson, Aaron McVeigh as Jasper, Sanjeev Kohli as Martin Flemming, Mark Bonnar as Stephen Burns. 

New additions, meanwhile, will include: 

Aisling Franciosi as Kimmie,Greg Wise as Derek Powell,Nicholas Rowe as Thomas Fulton,Tony Curran as Winnie Calderwood,Hamish Clark as Christopher Herron,Alex Ferns as Phil Allenbeck, Ross Anderson as Ricky Daddario,Rebecca Root as June Lovesay, Isla Johnston as Agnes,Amy Brenneman as Helen.

What’s Department Q season 2 going to be about?

The show’s executive producer, Rob Bullock, said: “This season, Carl and his band of misfits tackle a terrible crime hidden in the highest echelons of Scottish society. It is a story for our times: rich and powerful people who believe they are above the law. Carl, of course, knows otherwise.” 

And Manda Levin, head of UK scripted development for Netflix, added: “The story of Season 2 is as darkly delicious as you’d expect, and Carl and his glorious gang will have their work cut out pinning down the perpetrators as we launch back in for more.”
