Netflix Is Developing a Show Based on 1 of Glen Powell’s Biggest Hits

Netflix and Glen Powell are teaming up again to turn one of his biggest hits into a full television series. The streamer is developing a show inspired by the actor’s 2024 breakout film with an acclaimed showrunner attached to write.

Netflix is developing a Hit Man television series inspired by the 2024 AGC Studios feature film, Deadline reported exclusively. Stephen Falk, creator of You’re the Worst, writes the series and will executive produce. Glen Powell and Richard Linklater will also executive produce the potential show through AGC Television and Powell’s BarnStorm Productions.

Falk joins a producing team that includes BarnStorm’s Dan Cohen alongside AGC’s Stuart Ford, Miguel A. Palos Jr and Lourdes Diaz. Additionally, Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, Vicky Patel, Shivani Rawat and Julie Goldstein serve as co-executive producers. Meanwhile, Netflix declined to comment on the development.

While details remain under wraps, the series will likely follow the film’s core premise. The original movie centered on an unassuming college professor working as a police contractor. Specifically, he used elaborate disguises and crafted different characters to pose as a fake hitman and catch suspects.

The premise draws comparisons to J.J. Abrams’ ABC spy drama Alias, where the protagonist assumed different identities. Powell also uses disguises, including prosthetics, in his Hulu comedy series Chad Powers. Both projects showcase the actor’s range with transformative character work. AGC Studios announced the film in May 2022 before securing international sales ahead of its fall production start.

The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival and debuted in North America at Toronto. Netflix acquired it for multiple territories, including the U.S. and UK, in a $20 million deal.

Hit Man earned strong reviews after its June 2024 Netflix release following a limited theatrical run. Powell received a Golden Globe nomination while he and Linklater earned a WGA Award nomination. The series follows other Netflix film-to-television adaptations, including XO, Kitty and the upcoming Extraction series.
