Is there any better way to relax at the weekend than a fright-filled film, with plenty of suspense to get your adrenaline going?
If you’re itching to watch a new horror that may have slipped under your radar, Netflix has just added 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One.
This weekend is the perfect time if you’ve been meaning to binge the franchise, as the original 2018 film is leaving Netflix next month.
The prequel to John Krasinski’s silent nightmare sees Lupita Nyong’o take centre stage as Sam, a terminally ill cancer patient who must navigate an invasion.
Those familiar with the franchise will know these aliens are completely blind, but have a supersonic hearing ability that means any noise results in an attack.

While A Quiet Place has been a popular horror series since the first instalment, and while prequels get a bad rap, Day One proved a success.
On review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, it sits at an impressive 86% tomatometer rating with a favourable 76% from the audience.
The original film, starring the Office icon and his wife Emily Blunt, has an incredible 96% critics rating while the sequel isn’t far behind at 91%.
Day One plays with the horror genre’s popular final girl trope, with reviewers praising Lupita’s ‘affecting’ performance.
‘Made me weep, excellent film,’ shared Holland W on the review site as Elizabeth said it ‘had me on the edge’ and that she ‘loved it’.
‘The movie was great and is a masterpiece,’ boldly claimed Kitbull, while Alexander P was more measured, sharing ‘for a prequel, it was pretty good.’
‘If you love horror movies, if you love this universe, if you love Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things, or if you just love cats, A Quiet Place: Day One delivers,’ wrote Film Enquiry’s Clement Tyler Obropta.
Joseph plays Eric, a British law student who works with Sam to escape Manhattan when the invasion begins.
Meanwhile, the cat in question was Frodo, a non-CGI tuxedo cat with a penchant for wandering off, played by Nico and Schnitzel.
Lord of the Rings fans are not mistaken, the fluffy feline is named after the iconic fantasy franchise’s central hobbit who takes the ring to Mordor with his best friend, Sam.
Lupita actually had a fear of cats before filming, but worked with exposure therapists and ended up adopting her own orange tabby named Yoyo after wrapping.
Despite the huge success, the wheels are already in motion to bring the franchise to an end with a third film set for release on July 30, 2027.
Emily is returning alongside her on-screen kids, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe, as well as second film addition, Cillian Murphy.
Joining for the first time is Cillian’s Bone Temple co-star and Sinners actor, Jack O’Connell, who has already proven his horror chops.
Rounding out the cast are Katy O’Brian and Jason Clarke (also a former Cillian co-star).
Until that third and final film unleaashes it’s fresh but silent horrors on us, we recommend seeing where it all started.
A Quiet Place: Day One is available to stream now on Netflix.
