We have to imagine you’re mid-queue for some of the great shows that recently aired since the start of the year. There are plenty of series slated to return or premiere in 2026, and we’re eager to get to them. With so many on the horizon, we’ve narrowed things down to the ones we’re most excited about. Here are the most anticipated upcoming TV shows of 2026.
What are the most anticipated upcoming TV shows of 2026?
There are over 50 shows scheduled to hit the air this year, and some are still in the realm of speculation. Here are just a few of our picks we’re particularly excited for. Some are spin-offs, some are entirely new, and some are seasons we’ve been waiting on with bated breath.
The Testaments (Disney+)
The finale of The Handmaid’s Tale was one for the books. If you’re not caught up, we’d strongly suggest making that your first queue-up. It also sets things up nicely for The Testaments, a Hulu sequel based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, The Testaments. Even though June Osborne’s story has come to an end, there’s still more to explore in Gilead. The new series is set years after The Handmaid’s Tale, following a new generation of women raised within the system who begin to push back and fight for their freedom. At the center of this very different take on a coming-of-age story are Agnes, a pious girl raised in Gilead, and Daisy, a newcomer from beyond its borders. Which, of course, begs the question of why any teenage girl would move to Gilead? Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) returns, too, which feels like it could go a lot of ways. It’ll be interesting to see how this one shapes up.
The Testaments is set to premiere on Disney+ on April 8.
Euphoria Season 3 (HBO Max)
It’s been four years since the end of season two, and a lot has changed for these actors since. Nearly every actor in the gang has since skyrocketed into A-list territory, largely thanks to the series’ success. Sadly, we’re missing some of the other cast this round, after the passing of Eric Dane and Angus Cloud. Still, we’re happy to see most of the group, Rue (Zendaya), Nate (Jacob Eloridi), Kate (Sydney Sweeney), Lexi (Maude Apatow), Maddy (Alexa Demie), and Jules (Hunter Schaefer), back together for what looks like a wild ride of a season. Five years after graduation, everyone is moving on to the next chapter in their lives. We can’t say exactly what that looks like, but it’s as messy as you’d expect.
Euphoria is set to premiere on HBO Max on April 12.
Widow’s Bay (Apple TV+)
This horror-comedy from Apple TV+ looks especially promising following a first-look teaser released last month. The series stars Matthew Rhys as the mayor of a quaint New England town that’s also a struggling community, and one that’s completely without cell service or Wi-Fi. Beyond the technological isolation, the town is deeply superstitious and believes the island is cursed. And they might be right.
Widow’s Bay is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on April 29.
House of the Dragon Season 3 (HBO Max)
This is one series that really doesn’t need any extra fanfare. Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set roughly 200 years before Game of Thrones and lays the groundwork for the Targaryen civil war that ultimately leads to the end of the dragons. With Season 3, The Dance of the Dragons is fully underway, and there’s no turning back. Alliances will shift, and the body count (of both man and dragon) is only going to rise. We get the feeling that this is the penultimate push for the throne. If you’re familiar with the books, or even just remember what was said in Game of Thrones, there’s a real question of how much ground the show will cover in its eight-episode run. As it stands, the series is expected to wrap up with Season 4.
House of the Dragon is set to return in June.
Ted Lasso Season 4 (Apple TV)
When Ted Lasso ended in 2023, our hearts broke a little. The world just felt a little less sunny without the goodness this show gave us. Fortunately, it’s coming back and at a time when it feels like maybe we need it more than ever. Season 4 takes us from Kansas back to England, where Ted faces a new challenge: coaching a Division II women’s team. Some of our favorite cast members are set to return, including Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brett Goldstein (Roy), and Jeremy Swift (Higgins). Sadly, it seems Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) had a conflict on another show at the time of filming. Maybe they were able to squeeze him in for a cameo (we can only hope!)
Ted Lasso is set to return this summer.
How we picked the most anticipated upcoming TV shows of 2026
Most of the original series we were most excited for have already aired this year, which leaves us eagerly anticipating the return of some of our favorites. If you’re looking for more original shows, other contenders we’re excited for include Half Man (BBC One), Pride and Prejudice (Netflix), Spider-Noir (Disney+), and The Boys From Brazil (Netflix), though we’re not certain if the latter will, in fact, premiere this year.
