MLB Insider Reveals Grim Marlins Woes After Rockies Series Exposes Pathetic Off-Field Reality

What can get worse for the Miami Marlins at the moment? The last thing the Marlins wanted was probably the 24-39 record. But seems like there are a truckload of problems. The stands are still empty at the stadium – something that’s been haunting the team for so long. Since LoanDepot Park opened, the average attendance has been approximately 11,944. That puts the park dwindle in terms of attendance.

And now, they have a new issue.

The Marlins have landed themselves in financial trouble after losing a lot of money while trying to fill the games at the ballpark. MLB insider Bob Nightengale, making note of the poor attendance during the three-game series against the Colorado Rockies, wrote, “The Miami Marlins actually lost money this week just staffing baseball games at their ballpark against the Colorado Rockies. Their total paid attendance for the three-game series: 19,768.”

Well, the LoanDepot Park has a total capacity of 37,000. So, if we look at the numbers, it’s only 50%, and that’s for all three of the games played here. Pretty dismal, right? They tried their best to fill the chairs, but only to find out they were losing a significant amount of money.

As if we look at Monday’s game, which the Rockies won 6-4, only 5,894 people watched it, as reported by the ballpark announcer. Only 16 percent of the stadium was full!!! Although the severe weather conditions might be one reason, we cannot deny the Marlins’ contribution, too.

The Miami Marlins have reached the playoffs only four times. They have no division titles. They hardly show any intent to win. And most importantly, when entering the 2025 season, they didn’t spend enough on free agents, which could have turned a few games in their favor, at least.

What can they expect from fans then?

Marlins’ winning cannot be the only solution to the low attendance problem

Yep! Even if the Miami Marlins go on to win most of the games from here on, there’s no guarantee that fans will flock to the stadium to catch a glimpse. The Marlins have battled with the lack of identity and a proper direction for many years. They also have a history of long stretches of losses.

They just don’t seem to learn from their mistakes. And that’s what gives us a stark reminder of how fragile this franchise has been. Just like in the game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yandy Diaz was the hero of the game, as he managed to hit a two-run homer against Marlins’ reliever Valente Bellozo during the fifth inning. He doubled off in the eighth inning while allowing Jose Caballero to steal a third. Caballero also scored on the sacrifice fly by Calvin Faucher. And eventually, it led to the Rays winning the game by 3-2 on Sunday.

Maybe it’s just bad luck. Nothing seems to be going the Marlins’ way at the moment. But fans might still hope to see some light in the dark times. And the quicker Miami can get things sorted, the better it will be for them to bring back the audience. It might still not be too late… right?
