The Duchess of Sussex’s dad, Thomas Markle Snr, is said to have moved into a care home for dementia patients.

The 82-year-old is suspected of paedophilia after a stash of alleged child sex abuse images was discovered at his home in the Philippines and inside a storage unit in Mexico.

But concern is growing that the FBI investigation into Mr Markle could hit a wall after reports that he was moved into a specialist dementia care home in Florida.

Meghan’s estranged dad is said to have been taken to a £3,000-a-month care home on Friday, the Sun reports.

The facility provides ‘memory care’ to patients, the outlet noted.

Legal experts warned that the move, which reportedly took place on the same day the alleged material was found in the Rosarito storage unit, could complicate any interviews.

Mr Markle has admitted that he paid for sex in the Philippines, but has denied possessing any child abuse material, labelling the accusations as a ‘bunch of lies.’

He also denied having a storage unit in Rosarito.

Florida-based attorney Spencer Kuvin told the Sun that a diagnosis of dementia or a memory deficit means the person cannot knowingly waive their rights, and that FBI investigators ‘can’t just barge into a memory care facility.’

His leg was amputated in an emergency operation in Cebu City, the Philippines, in December last year due to a blood clot. He moved to Florida in May 2026.

The Duchess of Sussex has been estranged from her father for years after he was caught selling pictures to the paparazzi.

In her final letter to him, the Duchess told her father she ‘knows he is an abuser’ and that he will never meet Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, it is claimed.

Meghan was handed a letter by a Met Police royal protection officer containing child sex abuse claims against her dad in January 2019.

Written by his first wife, late Roslyn Loveless, it is said to have prompted Meghan to want to go public with the claims, but she was allegedly advised against doing so by the officer.

The same officer failed to alert senior command to the letter, leaving senior royal aides and even the then Met Commissioner in the dark, it is understood.

Met Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over the matter.

The Duchess of Sussex told the Sun in a statement after news of the letter emerged: ‘I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.

‘In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me.

‘It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.

‘I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them.

‘I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.

‘Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.’
