GOP delegates nominated Max Engling as their candidate for secretary of state June 20, capping off a messy convention season with the ousting of the current secretary of state for the second convention in a row. Engling, a staffer for U.S. Sen. Jim Banks, won with 867 votes after two rounds of voting. Knox County Clerk David Shelton received 627 votes, and Secretary of State Diego Morales received 134 votes. Former gubernatorial candidate Jamie Reitenour lost in the first round after receiving the lowest number of votes.
