The way the 2024/25 season ended was something the Dallas Mavericks would love to forget. They slipped on their own banana peel after trading away Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis — a huge reason behind their postseason failure. But now, with Cooper Flagg on his way, it seems the Mavericks are not taking any chances, especially with their coaching.
After all, despite his success and track record, Kidd can’t go at it alone. Every good coach needs a staff to help them see what they’re missing, question their decisions, and generally make their job easier. Well, the Mavs have gone all out in giving Jason Kidd some assistance with their latest hire, who is a former NBA assistant coach. And both Jake Fischer of The Athletic and Dallas Morning News’ Mike Curtis have reported this.
“The #Mavs have agreed to terms with former Kings assistant Jay Triano to become the second-lead assistant on Jason Kidd’s coaching staff, a person familiar with the team’s thinking confirms,” wrote Curtis on X.

The Athletic first reported Triano’s official hiring.
