Mattancherry Mafia: Mammootty-Khalid Rahman Reunion Adds Asif Ali Naslen

The much-anticipated second collaboration between Mammootty and director Khalid Rahman now has an official title. Unveiled on Friday, Mattancherry Mafia marks a tonal shift for the duo, who last worked together on the grounded police drama Unda.

A title reveal that sparks curiosity

Along with the title announcement came confirmation of a promising ensemble. Asif Ali and Naslen will play key roles alongside Mammootty in what is billed as a gangster action-comedy. The film was first announced in December 2025 as a collaboration between Mammootty, Khalid Rahman and Cubes Entertainments. The film has now been revived with renewed momentum. It is produced by Khalid Rahman and B Rakesh under Plan B Motion Pictures and Universal Cinemas, indicating a reshaped production setup that has allowed the project to move forward without compromising its core vision.

The writing team brings together multiple creative voices. The screenplay is co-written by Niyog Krishna along with Sharfu-Suhas and Thasreeq Abdul Salam. Given their previous work, the film is expected to balance quirky humour with the unpredictability of gangster storytelling.

On the technical front, the film assembles a reliable crew. Cinematography is handled by Jimshi Khalid, while editing is by Noufal Abdulla. Sound design comes from Vishnu Govind, ensuring an immersive sonic texture for the film’s bustling setting.
