LOVE Island boss Mike Spencer-Hayter has revealed this year’s series will launch with a major twist in the first week.

And it’s something he says has “never been done before” on the show, anywhere in the world.

Ruling out a repeat of a big-name entrance – following Joey Essex‘s shock signing last year – creative director Mike said viewers can still expect something dramatic.

He told The Sun: “Something big is coming in week one. We’ve got a really big week one planned. It’s hard to say what we’re doing without saying it.

“It’s not a celebrity. We’ve not seen it before.”

Mike added that changes will be noticeable from the very start of the series.

He said: “There will be things happening for the first couple of days we’ve not done before and certainly in week one. During that week, there’s something incredibly big we’ve never done before.

“Hopefully we can do it. It’s quite experimental. I just think you can’t rest on your laurels, being like, ‘This is really popular.’

“We have to keep it exciting and tear up the rule book a bit.”

Mike also revealed that producers have broken with tradition by planning further ahead than usual.

He said: “We’ve mapped out two weeks, which we don’t usually do, to be honest. So we’ve got two weeks planned and one very, very big thing that’s never been done ever on Love Island. Globally.”

Mike recalled telling ITV’s head of media relations about the twist, teasing: “I told Justin what we’re doing, and I never usually tell people, and you were like, ‘What the f**k?’ You were very excited.”

In keeping with Love Island tradition, 2025’s summer edition starts on ITV2 the week after the Late May Bank Holiday.

Maya Jama will be welcoming a cast of contestants looking for love into the famous villa at 9pm on Monday, June 9.

The TV presenter called for even more ‘twists and turns’ in the trailer for Love Island 2025.

She said: “This year Love Island needs something bigger, something bolder, I want ideas.

“This year I want more drama, more bombshells, more break-ups, more makeups.

“I want more twists, I want more twists than ever.”

Maya flew out to Mallorca on May 26, 2025, sharing a snap of six suitcases and three bags with her followers before heading to the airport.

Once she had landed, Maya shared videos of herself dancing on Instagram along with the caption: “On holiday until I start Love Island.”

Spilling the beans on what she’s already uncovered about the latest series of Love Island, Maya also told her TikTok followers: “Do I even know who the Islanders are?

“Do I know what time and date I’m flying to Mallorca? No, but guess what?

“We are so back. We are so f***ing back. I’m really excited, guys. The sun is out!”

She added: “Summer Love Island‘s about to happen.

“They released a little advert. It ain’t even the real advert yet. I can smell it in the air.

“A bunch of new cuties are about to enter that villa. Your 9pm’s will be gone. You will be locked in!”
