With Gunn serving as an executive producer, expectations are already high for the upcoming HBO Max series. The DCU co-chairman has recently posted the new posters for the new show on X, which premieres later this week. The new poster features both the lead stars, Chandler and Pierre, with the premiere time for the show this weekend.

Gunn wrote, “#Lanterns premieres this Sunday at 9 pm ET on @hbomax,” in his post, intensifying the excitement among the fans.

What else do we know about DC’s new Lanterns show?

The DCU is finally introducing Lanterns into its interconnected universe. The show prepares to debut John Stewart and Hal Jordan, the members of the Green Lantern Corps. They will team up together to solve a murder mystery. While the murder serves as the central mystery, the official trailer also teases several other threats.

Fans also got a glimpse of the Manhunters, a menacing group from Green Lantern mythology. Another major reveal was Sinestro, who is portrayed by Ulrich Thomsen. During the recent presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, both Stewart and Jordan could be seen using their Green Lantern powers.

Directed by James Hawes, the first episode of Lanterns will premiere on August 16, 2026, on HBO Max. The eight-episode season will release new episodes weekly on Sundays, with the last episode slated for October 4, 2026.

Showrunner Chris Mundy created Lanterns with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The show is said to be part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. James Gunn serves as one of the executive producers with the three creators and Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and James Hawes.

Alongside Pierre, Chandler, and Thomsen, the series also features Kelly MacDonald, Nicole Ari Parker, Sherman Augustus, Nathan Fillion, Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, Chris Coy, Laura Linney, Poorna Jagannathan, and Paul Ben-Victor.
