The seventh episode of HBO Max’s “Lanterns” reportedly has reached 7 million viewers in the U.S. in its first three days of availability, according to Nielsen via Variety.

That number is said to be a combination of linear viewers on HBO’s cable channel plus streams on HBO Max. The trade says the DC Universe series has shown strong viewership thus far, averaging above 12 million viewers per episode to date in the U.S. and nearly 19 million worldwide so far. Those averages are expected to rise by millions with time.

They seem comparable to HBO’s “IT: Welcome to Derry,” which pulled in 6.5 million U.S. viewers in three days for its most-watched episode, and around its finale reported a similar 19.7 million worldwide viewership average. A few months later, during an earnings call earlier this year, HBO Max gave an updated 27 million per episode worldwide figure for that show.

HBO’s biggest series in terms of worldwide average episode viewership in recent years include “The Last of Us” Season 2 at 37 million, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” at 36 million, “House of the Dragon” Season 3 at 33 million, “Euphoria” Season 3 at 27 million, “The White Lotus” Season 3 at 26 million, “The Pitt” Season 2 at 25 million and “The Penguin” at 20 million with most of those numbers coming around the time of their finales as opposed to months after they concluded their runs (thus are likely slightly higher).

“Lanterns” is also continuing to bring in new viewers as the season progresses, with 1.5 million new viewers watching the series premiere within the last week. With the series finale releasing this Sunday, viewership is expected to surge as binge-watchers catch up.
