Uh-oh… (Picture: ITV)

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has got a track record of falling for Coronation Street’s baddest lads. Surely she’s got nothing to fear from her boy in blue, DS Kit Green. (Jacob Roberts). Think again…

Poor Sarah’s had more heartbreak on the Cobbles than G ant T’s in the Rovers.

From her doomed teenage romance with secretly bestie Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) before he came out, to her dangerous trysts withmurderous gangster Callum Logan (Sean Ward) and drug dealing lowlife Damon Hay (Ciarán Griffiths), Sarah’s certainly had a thing for wrong’uns.

Gary Windass (Mikey North) was no exception.

The two enjoyed a long, on-again off-again passionate relationship, which came to an end after Gary got too deep in crime for Sarah’s liking. However, these two lovers have looked pretty cosy recently. Especially since the night of Theo’s murder, when Sarah was attacked from behind by a mysterious attacker, who is secretly Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown). Is Gary merely concerned for his friend… or is it something more?

Whatever the source of Gary’s growing closeness to Sarah, it’s bad news for her current beau, Kit. Which makes it bad news for Gary.

Don’t let the police badge fool you. The cheeky chappy Cobbles copper is far from squeaky clean. Kit is a morally ambiguous plod with a shady track record of bending the law or breaking it entirely – like planting evidence to frame Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder. Or letting Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) go to prison for the arson he committed on a local shop.

Why is this bad new for Gary? Because Kit just so happens to be the investigating officer for Theo’s murder… and he already regards Gary as Suspect Number One.

Not without reason. Gary hates bullies like Theo. Especially bullies who act like his best mate while subjecting a terrified Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) to horrific abuse behind closed doors. Still, it doesn’t look too good that Gary bashed up Theo’s van with a sledgehammer on the night of his murder. That’s why Gary’s wife Maria gave Kit a false alibi for the evening, claiming they were having ‘quality time’ at the builders’ yard.

This is something that she’s probably regretting now, as Maria’s starting to suspect that Gary and Sarah are carrying on behind her back. It seems Kit is not the only detective on the case.

Right now, he’s completely clueless. So much so that he’s about to pop the question to Sarah, after he asked her daughter Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) permission.

That’s all about to change.

Kit starts to suspect that Sarah’s been having secret trysts with her ex, leading him to plan a dinner party serving an extra-large helping of revenge…

The episode kicks off with a flash-forward to post-dinner party in Kit and Sarah’s flat, where the blood-stained table is covered in broken glass with an up-ended chair. What happened?

When Kit reminds Sarah about their date night and suggests they go food shopping at lunchtime. But when Kit receives a text from Sarah cancelling their lunchtime trip, Brody (Ryan Mulvey) teases him that Sarah’s had a better offer. Maria overhears and the cogs start turning in her head….

And she’s not alone. Later, when Sarah leaves the builders yard, Kit watches her with increasing paranoia.

And later in the Rovers, Sarah invites Todd and Summer (Harriet Bibby) to join her and Kit for dinner, Kit looks devastated.

However when he then spots her whispering to Gary, Kit suddenly seizes his chance for revenge by suggesting that Gary and Maria might like to join him, Sarah, Todd and Summer.

Judging by this picture of Sarah with a bandaged hand, it can’t be anything good. Presumably, she cuts her hand on the broken glass. But who broke it?
