After debuting in select overseas markets a few weeks ago, Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends opened domestically this week, in the wake of a massive Memorial Day weekend. It took the third spot on the domestic charts, behind Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake and Paramount’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. While its performance didn’t exactly set the cash registers ringing, the movie has managed to recover its modest reported budgetalready. It remains to be seen if audiences around the globe view the film as worthy of a trip to the theaters, or if they’ve become accustomed to watching sequels to 80s franchises, like Beverly Hills Cop: Axl F, at home.
