Ransom Canyon star Josh Duhamel has said that he has strong opinions about politics but prefers not to express them publicly. In a recent podcast appearance, the actor said his approach is influenced by his commitment to his audience.

Josh Duhamel thinks talking politics would ‘alienate half’ of his audience

Josh Duhamel, who rose to prominence playing Leo du Pres on the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children, spoke about his political stance during a conversation with Megyn Kelly on her podcast.

The actor said that he keeps his political views to himself and suggested that other actors could consider doing the same. “I have real strong opinions about things but I don’t really talk about it because it’s like, ‘Why would I alienate half my audience?’ Because I respect their views on things but I’m not going to preach to them,” the actor said to the host.

Kelly pointed out that more celebrities appear to be choosing not to publicly share their political views as the country becomes more divided on the issue. Duhamel responded that “it makes perfect sense” to focus on acting and keep politics separate.

Speaking about celebrities who are vocal about their opinions, Duhamel said, “If you really want to be successful in this business, why would you make half of your audience despise you by your beliefs? Maybe they don’t care. I don’t know.”

He added, “I mean, I look at it as a business decision, you know? I’m here just to make cool movies, cool TV. I’m here to make cool stuff. I’m the court jester, you know? If I want to preach to you about what I believe politically, I will go run for office, which I’m not [going to do].”

Other actors like Jennifer Lawrence have also spoken about distancing themselves from politics in recent months.
