Jason Sudeikis has updated fans on whether they should expect more Ted Lasso in the future.
The former Saturday Night Live star recently returned to the role that won him two Golden Globes and four Emmys in the long-awaited fourth season of the Apple TV+ comedy, which came after a three-year break.
With the fourth run of episodes now over, fans have naturally been speculating about whether more could be on the cards – which its co-creator was asked about during a recent appearance on the podcast Talk Easy.
Jason Sudeikis has indicated he wanted Ted Lasso to run for six seasonsJason – who previously indicated that he envisaged season four as the first part of a new three-season story arc – insisted that he “would like to” do a fifth outing for Ted Lasso, but pointed out that it takes a bit more than that to get a new series going.
“It takes a village,” he told host Sam Fragoso, although he did indicate that he “assumed” Apple TV+ would be up for more Ted Lasso in the future.
He added: “I just don’t know – we haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that.”
Jason Sudeikis at the premiere of Ted Lasso season four in AugustTed Lasso’s executive producer Brendan Hunt told Variety earlier this month: “[Jason] plays the cards close to his chest, and I’m not privy to whatever poker game that I hope is happening between the powers that be.
“I think we’ve always basically hoped we were coming back for more than one, but if it ends up just being one, then OK, that’s fine. It did end nicely. We’ll just have to see.”
After reeling off possible storylines for a potential fifth season, he clarified: “There’s not yet any indication that we’re going to get to answer those questions. So at the moment, they’re still lingering in the air.”
The first four seasons of Ted Lasso are available to stream now on Apple TV+.
