James Gunn recently clarified that an upcoming DC show will feature both Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd. The show, starring Skyler Gisondo as Olsen, was announced in November last year. Gisondo first appeared as the character in Gunn’s 2025 movie Superman.
The Gorilla Grodd series isn’t just about him
The upcoming Jimmy Olsen series will also involve Gorilla Grodd, according to James Gunn. Gunn broke the news while responding to a fan’s query on the social media platform Threads.
On Threads, a fan expressed their confusion over whether both Grodd and Olsen will appear in a show together. They asked Gunn, “@jamesgunn So, are we getting a Gorilla Grodd TV Show? Is Jimmy Olsen in it? Please share with us!” In his reply, Gunn also gave an update on the production of the show and stated, “It’s both a Jimmy Olsen AND a Gorilla Grodd show. And it’s one of my favorite projects. We start filming soon.”
When announced in November 2025, Variety reported that the show would follow the pattern of true-crime docuseries. The docuseries will be hosted by Gisondo’s Olsen.
Recently, Gunn also shared a photo of a bingo card provided to him on the sets of Man of Tomorrow, which is currently being filmed. In the comments, a fan asked him, “Is it true that the Jimmy Olsen show became a gorilla grodd show?” They added that this could be a great opportunity for Gunn to introduce a range of characters in the DCU. However, Gunn debunked the claim that the show’s main focus has shifted from Olsen to Gorilla Grodd. He replied, “It didn’t become anything. It is what it’s always been, including pitching it as part of the package before I even started at DC.”
The release date of the Olsen and Grodd show has not yet been confirmed.
