James Bond fans are very excited for new game ‘007 First Light’

James Bond fans are very excited for the new 007 video game after developers revealed the title, 007 First Light, with more information due later this week.

Back in 2020, Hitman creators IO Interactive announced they were working on an ambitious James Bond game. For the past five years, it’s been known as Project 007 but now a proper title has been confirmed – 007 First Light.

A full reveal of 007 First Light is due later this week with developers sharing “never-before-seen footage” as they look to launch a “new era for James Bond in video games”.

“Featuring a wholly original Bond origin story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.”

The IO Showcase will take place this weekend and feature “trailers, announcements, gameplay demos, and a live Q&A” alongside a live Q+A and some “additional surprises”. As well as 007 First Light, IO will be giving fans a glimpse of the Hitman 25th anniversary celebrations. You can watch it via IO’s YouTube channel with the showcase taking place at 2am on Saturday (June 7).

“I’m excited for this. I’ve got no doubt IOI can nail the infiltration gameplay and level design, hopefully they get the action elements right too,” one fan wrote. “I am so absolutely pumped for this game. Giving the IP to IOI was 100 per cent the right move, as well as just giving them time to cook. If this is a 2025 release, this is my most anticipated game of the year,” said another. “James Bond has been so under-utilised for the last few generations. I’m so stoked to see 007 make a return,” wrote a third.

In 2021, IO CEO Hakan Abrak  said 007 First Light would feature an original James Bond story. “It was very important for us that it wasn’t a movie adaptation. It’s not a game about a specific movie, where the story has already been told. Every Bond defines a generation and it’s amazing how they kept reinventing themselves over so many years,” he explained. “We’re inspired by the whole thing, and just sucking things into us to make an original Bond, an original story, but that is absolutely true and recognizable in the values there is in Bond.”

Last year, the studio confirmed new mission director Rodrigo Santoro for the project. “Right now, I am looking forward to starting working with the team, and together, delivering the best 007 game ever made,” he said in a statement. “I admire how the studio dares to innovate and create new memorable game experiences. This is particularly remarkable in times when most companies are focused on making sequels.”

In other news, Resident Evil fans think a brand new game could finally be revealed at Summer Games Fest, which takes place later this week.
