007 First Light was first announced back in 2020 and yesterday (June 4) developers IO Interactive released the first trailer for the video game, alongside a description of the origin story.

“Players will step into the shoes of a young Bond, a promising yet rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6,” reads a description of the game. “For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience Bond’s ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films.”

Following the reveal, fans are convinced Patrick Gibson is playing James Bond. The actor currently stars as serial killer Dexter in prequel series Original Sin.

“He’s a phenomenal actor and I’m sure he’ll be great as Bond,” one fan wrote on X. “Dude did an amazing job with Dexter. Cannot wait for his interpretation as Bond,” said another. “Really good pick, and he’s so talented. Honestly not a bad choice for the live action Bond either,” added a third.

Unless I’m mistaken, our new game Bond is being played by Patrick Gibson.

Another Irish Bond in the bag, can’t argue with that!

007 First Light will launch at some point next year. Meanwhile, fans are still waiting to find out who will take over as James Bond in the live action films following Daniel Craig’s departure in 2021’s No Time To Die. Last year it was reported Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been offered the job, although the actor avoided the question when asked about it on the red carpet for action-comedy The Fall Guy.

Earlier this year, long-serving producers Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, stepped away from the creative process and handed over control to Amazon MGM Studios, ending over 60 years of the Broccoli family’s control of the Bond estate. Fans have not reacted kindly to the news of the sale, with some predicting that Amazon will “ruin” the series by over-saturating the market with “mediocre spin-offs”.

In other news, Square Enix has announced the long-awaited remaster of a classic Final Fantasy game.
