ITV game show fans blast presenter for ‘mean’ jibe about contestant’s nose

The 1% Club viewers scolded presenter Lee Mack for a ‘brutal’ comment about a contestant’s nose.

On the ITV show, the comedian, 56, asked Diane Moorland how she would spend the prize money if she won.

She replied that she would splash the cash on cosmetic surgery as she had ‘never liked’ her nose.

Lee initially expressed shock and reassured Diane’s nose was ‘fantastic’ before quipping: ‘To be fair, it does look like that if you took your glasses off, the nose might come off as well.’

Diane took the remark in good humour, but The 1% Club viewers were appalled on social media.

On X, @HarryCullen20 said: ‘Gosh, I hope the lady with the nose cleared it for Lee to take the [mick] before the show. That was brutal! #The1PercentClub.’

Echoing their sentiment, @howitts72 commented: ‘Sake Lee. She’ll definitely have a complex about her nose now !#The1PercentClub.’

@InformeOculto wrote: ‘That was quite insensitive #The1PercentClub.’

Agreeing, @Cherish4You shared: ‘It was so mean of him.’

@danjeoryphoto also added: ‘Yes, awful, I thought.’

It’s not the first time The 1% Club has sparked grumblings from viewers.

In February, viewers were fuming over the ‘easiest question ever’.

It was: ‘The words below share a specific pattern. Why could VOTING also be part of the group?’

The words listed were Bandleader, Nickelodeon and Silverback.

Lee then explained that the link between the three was that they contained a metal – including lead, nickel, silver and tin.

Despite the contestants on the ITV show failing to spot the link, those at home were convinced the question could have been easily answered.

‘Second week in a row that I’ve got the 1% question right! I thought tonight’s was particularly easy so I’m surprised that none of them got it,’ Laura wrote.

Each episode of The 1% Club begins with Lee asking 100 competitors a question that is considered to be the most simple one that they’ll get to face.

If they get it wrong, they are no longer qualified to continue playing, and this continues for 15 questions, which progressively get more difficult.

Their complication level is judged by putting the same questions to the public and seeing what percentage get it right. The final question is answered correctly by only 1%.
