If someone pitched the idea of a horror musical, you might think it to be an odd combination that doesn't go together. After all, musicals are often joyous and light, while horror is dark and scary. What is there to sing and dance about when it comes to monsters and death? However, they can go well together and have done so many times in the past. Horror is the genre that requires the most from its audience. It needs us to fully buy into any wild plot, from a silly slasher to the invasion of a demonic entity. Horror needs us to scream with fear, laugh, release the tension, and jump when it all becomes too much. We have to participate or it doesn’t work. Isn't that what a musical asks of us too?
