Iron Maiden legend baffles fans by hosting local curry night at Welsh holiday park

He made millions as the drummer of rock icons Iron Maiden, but one member of the band is taking an extremely unexpected new direction hosting a curry night at a Welsh holiday park. 

Iron Maiden are one of the defining heavy metal bands of the 70s, shifting more than 130 million albums worldwide and selling out some of the world’s biggest stadiums. 

But drummer Nicko McBrain isn’t letting the band’s astronomical success put him off from making an appearance at Trecco Bay. 

Confirming the surprising turn of events on Instagram, the group’s account announced Nicko’s new gig and asked: ‘Can I Play With Madras?

‘Nicko will be at a very special Curry Night ahead of Planet Rockstock on Wednesday November 25 in Trecco Bay, Wales! ‘FINAL TICKETS REMAINING – head to the link in stories to get yours!’

Among the countless curry puns, there was so plenty of justifiable confusion among the band’s followers.  ‘Well this is an unexpected fever dream,’ wrote one understandably baffled fan, while another commented: ‘This is hilarious!’

‘Well theres a headline i never thought id read,’ replaced a third while someone else was seemingly a bit offended by the gig: ‘Hope this is a joke.’ 

But this is no joke: Nicko McBrian is the special guest at a Porthcawl curry night. 

The announcement comes two years after Nicko announced he’d quit touring with the band.

Iron Maiden confirmed the news after his final show at Allianz Parque in São Paulo, Brazil.

In an interview with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, Nicko said: ‘There was a second night in Sydney, Australia, where I might, it was probably one of the worst performance, personally for me. I thought it was a really bad performance.

‘And I remember saying to Bruce, walking back to the dressing room, or I think we did a runner, actually, we were walking back to the cars. 

‘I said, “Oh, mate.” I said, “I’m really struggling up there tonight.” He said, “Yeah.” And he looked at it, he said, “You looked like you were struggling.” And actually he said, ‘I was worried about your health.’

Planet Rockstock takes place at Trecco Bay Holiday Park between Thursday November 26th and Monday November 30th. Nicko McBrain’s Curry Night takes place the night before on Wednesday November 25th.
