The Beckhams were out in full force as Cruz Beckham took to the stage for the first of his hometown shows in London on Tuesday – and things are looking promising.
David and Victoria were visibly emotional watching their youngest son perform to a packed room as he forges a path as the frontman in a rock band amid a lifetime as a tabloid fixture.
But much to my surprise, Cruz, 21, commanded the room alongside his bandmates (The Breakers, formed of Dan Ewins, Telmo Seixas and Dario Scotti) with his famous parents watching on.
When Cruz started releasing his 00s indie-inspired tracks at the end of last year, his efforts were mostly met with tuts and eye-rolls.
But, remarkably, he might just be a rock star in the making. He can sing, he’s a great guitarist, and nothing about his new venture seems forced or part of the Brand Beckham machine.
David and Victoria, who watched their son from the back of the room on the night alongside their son Romeo and Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel, beamed with pride, sang along, and cheered for their son like no one was watching.
But during Loneliest Boy, a song rumoured to be about Brooklyn’s estrangement from the family (lyrics include ‘mama don’t talk too much/It’s breaking hеr heart’), Cruz was visibly emotional performing, while his dad wiped a tear from his eye before being consoled by Victoria.
And they’re right to feel emotional.
The other Beckham siblings have frustratingly had any chance of being taken seriously overshadowed by Brooklyn’s family bombshells and failed business ventures.
While Brooklyn clearly has his qualms with Brand Beckham, there hasn’t been much chatter about David and Victoria’s other children’s careers – Cruz’s band is now booking festivals and embarking on a US tour, Romeo recently made his London Fashion Week runway debut, and Harper, at the age of 14, is rumoured to be heading into the highly lucrative beauty industry.
And no thanks to his older brother, who has been taunted over the years for attempting to make it in football and photography (he’ll never live down his 2017 book What I See), the announcement of Cruz’s music career, while met with plenty of cynicism, is probably a relief for the Beckhams.

Cruz appears to be breaking through the noise of the sceptics. In fact, there were plenty of people in the room at London’s Courtyard Theatre who weren’t at all bothered that undoubtedly the most famous couple in the world were in the room with us. They just wanted to enjoy the music.
Of course Cruz benefits massively from his surname, but he seems hellbent on earning his stripes organically and breaking free from the shackles of the nepo baby title and not making it all about his parents’ success.
Although a subtle tribute to his mum came in the form of a head-to-toe Victoria Beckham outfit on stage, he didn’t even address David and Victoria’s presence once, despite them being flanked by security in a tiny 150 person capacity venue.
While Cruz is following in his mum’s footsteps and pursuing a music career, he admitted on stage that he’s idolising a different British band.
The Beatles influence was strong as he covered Revolution and All You Need Is Love, before singing his own hit about the songwriting icon, declaring: ‘I wanna be John Lennon’.
Cruz Beckham and The Breakers won’t come close to Fab Four status, but they’re making a good go of it.
