I slept with my new partner and his ex – it was amazing

As I wrap myself around my boyfriend, Peter*, in bed, he puts one arm around my shoulders and, with the other, he looks at his phone.

Meanwhile, a third hand moves from my hips and grabs me by the waist.

A woman whispers into my ear from behind: ‘You’re amazing.’

Peter looks over at us both – and smiles at a successful threesome.

But that wasn’t even the strangest part of this moment. Because I wasn’t just in bed with my boyfriend and a strange woman; she was Peter’s ex-girlfriend.

And Peter and I had just had the best sex of our entire (albeit brief) relationship – with absolutely no jealousy or regret.

I had only recently started dating Peter. Three weeks in, I had told him I was bisexual. It was scary – I wasn’t sure how he would react.

I didn’t know if he believed the misconception that bisexuals were just going through a phase, or that they would cheat. In a previous relationship, when I came out, my ex told me he didn’t want to be with me anymore because he believed I would become promiscuous and betray his trust.

Obviously that’s absolute nonsense, and in turn, our relationship took a nosedive soon after. But it meant I became scared to tell my partners about my sexuality. And I really liked Peter – I didn’t want to ruin things only three weeks into the relationship.

His response, however, was perfect.

‘Great,’ he said, smiling. ‘Wanna eat out?’

After rolling around laughing at the double entendre, we went to the Japanese restaurant down the road and celebrated the honesty in our relationship. I felt like I was starting to fall for him.

Then he said something that I should have considered a red flag: ‘I would love to see you have sex with another woman.’

‘Of course,’ I replied enthusiastically, as if I was doing him a favour. I didn’t realise until later that I was fulfilling his desire, not mine.

But before that became an issue, we both experienced a perfect moment with his ex-girlfriend Tamara*.

I was getting to know Peter’s friends, so I went to his friend’s house party in East London, hoping to make a positive impact and cement myself as a ‘good girlfriend’.

On the way there he stopped me before we went through the front door and said: ‘If you see a woman you want to sleep with, point her out. I’d love to watch that tonight’.

He grabbed me, pressed me into his body and kissed me passionately.

I couldn’t say no. But, to be honest, and to my own surprise, I didn’t actually want to say no. I was curious to see if our relationship could survive a threesome and intrigued by the thought that, maybe, I would be in my first open relationship. At the time, I liked the idea of being open, but was too insecure to go ahead and do it.

Perhaps, I thought, this would be the push I needed.

As we stood in the kitchen with his friends, laughing at their jokes and impressing them with my encyclopedic knowledge of Keanu Reeves films, I noticed someone walk in.

It felt like I was blinded by her beauty at first – because I was staring unblinking.

She was tall, with long braids and a fashionable streetwear style, and she flashed me a smile as she reached for the hummus and pitta on the table in front of me.

I smiled back, blushing.

‘Oh, looky who!’ Peter interrupted my gawking by giving her a big hug. ‘Nice to see you, Tamara’.

‘Your ex?’

The blinding light was now rapidly dulling and I looked at them both, confused and disappointed.

‘Yeah,’ Peter said laughing. ‘I told you – we’re still friends.’

‘Friends,’ I whispered as the light returned.

She introduced herself to me, and her French accent sealed the deal. I turned to Peter and moved him to the corner of the room.

‘How would you feel if we…you know…with Tamara? I know she’s your ex, but –’, I started babbling.

‘Yes!’ He interrupted me excitedly.

And within minutes, I watched as Peter went to talk to her. I saw her eyes grow in shock and then start to focus on me as she smiled.

The deal was done.

At that point, I’d had enough glasses of wine to not even consider how it would feel to see my new boyfriend with both his ex and myself.

And logistics were not discussed – I didn’t actually know if he would be involved at all.

She took my hand and we both followed Peter to the top floor bedroom, locking the door behind us.

Instantly, she took my clothes off and started kissing me, while Peter started to take her clothes off. That’s when I understood that I really was in a threesome.

And it was perfect.

She was perfect.

Peter was perfect.

It almost felt like a dream. After they had both made me orgasm, we lay in bed – I hugged him and she spooned me from behind.

I couldn’t believe it had actually worked out, and that I had no feelings of jealousy. And no awkwardness, either – she was also bisexual and had more experience than me, which I think was a big part of that.

For the next couple of weeks, Peter and I had electric sex thinking about the threesome, but very soon after that, he began asking me for more threesomes. I didn’t want to tarnish that perfect night by having a threesome with someone else and possibly ruining the memory of that first blissful experience and, subsequently, our relationship.

So I said no, and that was the beginning of the end.

We broke up soon after, and I didn’t mind.

I had still had the most perfect threesome, and no one could take that away from me.
