Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour galloped into New Jersey last night and proved that even Mother Nature knows not to mess with the Queen.
Performing at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on May 28, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter kicked off her fourth show in the New York area with the force of a thunderstorm.
The rain came down, the stage was soaked, but the show? Even better in the downpour, according to fans.
The Grammy-hoarding superstar took the stage at a precise 8:09 p.m. ET, because even precipitation can’t mess with Beyoncé’s devotion to her fans.
Crew members diligently wiped down the stage before the show, presumably whispering prayers and polishing it like an altar.
But the heavens opened anyway – and so did Bey’s bag of tricks.
At one point, she soared through the sky on a set piece like a bedazzled rodeo angel.
This moment prompted her own mum, Tina Knowles, to post a video and caption it with all the breathless disbelief of a woman watching her child fly through a thunderstorm: ‘Oh my God!!! You cannot talk her out of flying in pouring down rain! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Just had to get on my knees and pray ❤️.’
The performance marked stop number four in a five-night residency at MetLife as part of her Cowboy Carter and Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour, which is quickly becoming less of a tour and more of a full-blown religious movement.
Fan Madeline DeFreece, who managed to not only survive the rain, but claimed it added to the show, told Metro: ‘This show was meant to be performed in the rain. The way the fabric moved on the contemporary dancers — I could not imagine it any differently.’

She continued: ‘At one point the cowboys had a Magic Mike moment, thrusting the floor of the stage and immediately I turned to my friend and said, “We are so privileged to be in such a time and place.” I mean it was hot and provocative in a way that I don’t think Beyoncé nor her team planned for.’
Madeline also added: ‘I’d pay to see it again, I’d pay even more to see it again in the rain.‘
With one final MetLife performance scheduled for May 29, fans are already prepping ponchos and possibly industrial-strength fans to recreate the wind-blown magic of last night’s spectacle.
Because if there’s one thing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter era has taught us, it’s that nothing can stop her.
