How to Train Your Dragon remake’s box office prediction revealed
Universal and DreamWorks Animation expect the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon to open domestically between $65 million and $75 million across 4,000 theaters. (via Deadline)
This range beats the opening weekends of all three original films. The 2010 original earned $43.7 million, How to Train Your Dragon 2 made $49.4 million in 2014, and The Hidden World brought in $55 million in 2019. Director Dean DeBlois returns, with Mason Thames and Nico Parker taking on reimagined versions of Hiccup and Astrid. The film will launch with premium format support, including IMAX (413 screens), 4DX, and ScreenX.
The PG-rated film cost $150 million before marketing. The U.S. previews start Thursday at 2 p.m.

International markets are projected to contribute $110 million from full rollouts and offshore previews. When combined with domestic earnings, the global debut of How to Make Your Dragon remake will total between $175 million and $185 million.
Previews have already shown a strong overseas performance. South Korea began screenings on June 6 and led with $4.3 million across 1,644 screens, earning a 99% CVG Egg score. The U.K. and Ireland brought in $1.2 million, Germany followed with $1.1 million, and France added $1.4 million.
In Latin America, Brazil collected $2.7 million, while Mexico took in $2.1 million. The film also leads presales in China, where previous franchise entries grossed $120 million. The current rollout includes all major markets except Japan, which will open on September 5.
