House of the Dragon Season 3 ended with major casualties and seismic shifts, Variety reports. Showrunner Ryan Condal now teases an even bigger final season ahead. The team has already broken the story structure for Season 4.

Condal has also submitted a draft of the first episode to HBO. However, no official timeline exists for when Season 4 will air. He reveals he took a break during Season 3’s airing.

“No, I’ve actually taken time off. I needed to step away from all of this,” Condal says. He then adds confidently about what lies ahead for the show. “As crazy and big as Season 3 was, I think Season 4 is going to be even bigger.”

The showrunner also promises fresh additions to the final season’s roster. These include new characters, dragons and filming locations for the series. Condal expresses genuine excitement about bringing these elements to screen.

“It’s a great privilege to be able to tell a story, and to be able to control and write the ending, and to control when and where that happens,” Condal says. He acknowledges this level of creative control remains rare in television. “We’re very excited to get back in, and we have new characters, and new dragons and new locations all to come, that I think are gonna make it a very worthy, final season.”

Meanwhile, Season 3’s finale left several storylines unresolved for the future. Helaena Targaryen jumped to her death off screen in King’s Landing. The fates of Daeron Targaryen and his dragon Tessarion also remain unknown after the Battle of Tumbleton. Rhaenyra now faces growing consequences from her increasingly despotic decisions on the Iron Throne. These dangling threads set the stage for a dramatic conclusion.
