Martin wrote it, the role of her dragon was eliminated. HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series has gained a reputation for its controversial changes to canon, but it's hard to deny that a handful of these have paid off spectacularly. House of the Dragon took creative liberties with Helaena's story, for example, and the result is something hauntingly beautiful.
