MANCHESTER UNITED target Matheus Cunha spent more time walking than any other player in the Premier League this season.

The 26-year-old is on the verge of completing a move to Old Trafford.

United agreed terms for a deal on Tuesday after initially being knocked back by Wolves.

Club officials first proposed the idea of paying Cunha’s £62.5million release clause over a five-year period, but Wolves made it clear that they wanted the full amount by the end of the 2026-27 season.

Following additional discussions, a deal was eventually struck and the Red Devils were given permission to speak to Cunha himself.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, with the Brazilian understood to be keen on the switch.

But one perhaps concerning stat has emerged about his Premier League campaign.

Cunha spent more time walking than any other player in the league this term.

Overall, he spent 77.1 per cent of his time on the pitch walking.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is next having walked for 76.6 per cent of his game-time.

Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo is third on the list with 74.3 per cent, with Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa having recorded 74.2 per cent.

Forest full-back Ola Aina completes the list with 73.8 per cent.

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim regularly demands a high work-rate from his players, so it is unlikely he will accept walking on the pitch – especially from a winger.

Amorim remained tight-lipped about the club’s move for Cunha.

Following United’s 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia on Wednesday, he said: “You have to wait for that.

“I won’t confirm anything. I have no news. We will see. There will be some changes.”
