In fact, she hasn't topped Sanrio's global fan-voted rankings in seven years, with two characters repeatedly beating her out for the top spot. While those characters' continued dominance likely comes as little surprise to most fans, a dark-horse contender is emerging in North America and is closing in on Hello Kitty's longtime popularity.
