HBO has had another huge year in 2026, and one of its first big releases of the year came with the highly anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The show immediately won fans over for being so different from other Game of Thrones projects in the past — it’s set over only a few days at a jousting tournament, which couldn’t be further from the war between families seen in other Game of Thrones shows. HBO had no doubt that the show was going to be a massive hit, as it picked up the fantasy series for a second season months before the premiere of the first. What started as one massive fantasy gamble has snowballed into one of the most successful franchises of all time, but there’s another spin-off that deserves credit for its success.
