Only a few modern movies can genuinely say that they completely changed the industry, inadvertently or otherwise, but Sam Raimi’s Spider-Manis definitely on the list. The success of the first movie proved that there was tons and tons of money to be made from taking comic book characters seriously, and now that’s the only kind of movie there is. Avatarmovies make billions of dollars, but it’s not like every movie these days is a 3D spectacle about whales.
