HBO Max Adds 1 of 2025’s Best Psychological Thriller Movies Today

HBO Max subscribers can now watch one of Mubi’s acclaimed psychological thriller movies from 2025. Since its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, the R-rated film has received positive reviews from critics. It currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews.

What psychological thriller movie is now on HBO Max?

Beginning today, Mubi’s 2025 movie Lurker starring Gran Turismo’s Archie Madekwe is finally available to stream on HBO Max. In the film, Madekwe plays a rising pop star who suddenly befriends a loner who becomes obsessed with entering his circle. In addition to leading the cast, Madekwe was also a producer.

The film was written and directed by Alex Russell in his feature directorial debut. He’s best known for his acclaimed work on The Bear and Beef. The latter won him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. The ensemble cast also included Théodore Pellerin, Zack Fox, Havana Rose Liu, Wale Onayemi, Daniel Zolghadri, and Sunny Suljic.

“When a twenty-something retail clerk encounters a rising pop star, he takes the opportunity to edge his way into the in-crowd. But as the line between friend and fan blurs beyond recognition, access and proximity become a matter of life and death,” reads the synopsis.

The Lurker was executive-produced by Mal Ward, Matt Aselton, Alfonso Angoitia Legorreta, Gabriele Moratti, Lily Collins, Nicholas Wirth, Nicol Pone, and Ben Shafer. Producers were Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montomery, Galen Core, Marc Marrie, Charlie McDowell, Francesco Melzi D’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, and Jack Selby. The movie also featured original music from Kenny Beats, Dijon, and Rex Orange County, which was performed by Madekwe in the film.
