Harry Potter HBO Show Finds New Cornelius Fudge Actor

Warner Bros. has reportedly enlisted another key cast member to the Harry Potter TV show cast for the highly anticipated HBO adaptation. At the moment, the project is still currently in pre-production, as the creative continues their casting search for its massive cast.

Who is playing Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter HBO show?

According to Deadline, The Crown alum Bertie Carvel has signed on for the recurring role of Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge. The character was originally portrayed by the late English actor Robert Hardy in the film franchise. Carvel’s casting is still not guaranteed since HBO has declined to directly address it. This marks the acclaimed actor’s latest project with HBO, as he’s also currently slated to appear in the new Game of Thrones spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation,” An HBO representative said in a statement addressing if Carvel will play Cornelius Fudge. “As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

Harry Potter will be led by newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. They will be joined by John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.

The HBO adaptation is written and executive produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve, Succession), with Mark Mylod serving as its director. It will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series, featuring an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom. Executive producers are Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-time Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. It is a production by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
