“HYPOCRITE” Prince Harry chooses to stay in UK hotels without police protection but still bleats about his safety, an expert has slammed.

The Duke of Sussex has been moaning in closed Court of Appeal sessions how other VIPs are treated better than him as part of his legal action against the British Government.

It comes after the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) decided in 2020 that his level of protection should be decided on a case-by-case basis whenever he visits the UK.

He has to give the Home Office 30 days notice if he wishes to come back to these shores for them to assess the level of police protection he should be entitled to.

However, Harry does not believe security provided has been up to the standards of a working royal.

Part of the two-day hearing in London last week was in private but a short redacted summary has since been released.

The Duke gave an interview to the Telegraph shortly after the hearing finished stating that his “worst fears” had been confirmed by what he heard in the secret session and: “People would be shocked by what’s being held back”.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, TalkTV royal editor Sarah Hewson said: “He is not going to let this one go, regardless of what the outcome of this is.”

Sun royal editor Matt Wilkinson said: “I’m going to be contrary here”, adding that five years on from Megxit “he’s been over many, many times” to the UK.

“Is he just going a bit over the top here? I mean, why is he obsessed with the security?”

Mr Wilkinson said certain people within the Home Office and the Royal Family must be wondering “why doesn’t he trust the fact that we can keep him safe under these current conditions”.

The Duke has pinpointed one incident following a WellChild’s Charity event a couple of years ago, when he didn’t have a police escort.

Mr Wilkinson said press photographers were in attendance and “he appears to want armed police officers to deter journalists”, adding: “That’s the only case that we’ve heard.”

Cameron Walker, GB News royal correspondent, said: “It goes back to his paranoia… it goes back to what happened with his mother in the tunnel in Paris in 1997.”

Harry’s mum Princess Diana was killed when he was just 12 after a car she was traveling in crashed as it sped away from paparazzi.

“Clearly that would have been incredibly traumatic for him,” said Mr Walker.

‘It comes down to the intelligence sharing’

Ms Hewson said Harry’s team said during his recent visit to war-torn Ukraine that he “had far the greater security because he was accused of hypocrisy”.

“How can you go to Ukraine and suggest that you’re not safe to bring your family back to Britain or visit Britain?”

She said as well as Ukraine, during Harry and Meghan’s trips to Colombia or Nigeria his team said they got “far greater security” than in the UK.

“It comes down to the intelligence sharing, doesn’t it?” she continued.

“That he can pay for his own security team, but he can’t receive the kind of threat level intelligence that he would have had when he was a working royal.

“And I think, you know, he does have this bespoke system, 30 days notice, and then he gets it.

“But he and Meghan can’t freely come without asking permission, bring the children back as he says he wants them to know their heritage in the UK.”

She went on to say, Harry argues he’s being “singled out” or “punished”, and used the example of former PM Liz Truss, who gets a higher level of protection.

She said Ms Truss had a “brief term in office” while the Duke “is the son of the King and always will be no matter where he lives”.

Ms Hewson added: “On the other hand, if you say to the taxpayer, you’re going to be funding a guy who’s decided to up sticks and live in Montecito and you know, while his wife is selling jam, well, who’s going to pay for it?

“You’re going to pay for it. That’s not going to go down very well.”

Mr Walker said: “Harry did say he would have been happy to pay for the police protection, but he wasn’t allowed because that would set a precedent for rich football billionaires to have that to pay for Metropolitan Police protection as well.

“So it’s not as if he hasn’t tried.

“But I think it just does come down to this fundamental point that Prince Harry feels he cannot bring his family back to the UK because he says they are unsafe.”
