What happens in Gentle Monster’s trailer?
Netflix’s Gentle Monster trailer introduces Lucy as a successful musician and singer who decides to move from Munich to a country house with her husband Philip and their son for a fresh change. However, their life derails when Philip is arrested on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material on his computer.
This accusation made Lucy question her trust in her husband and how the man she loved is involved in such a horrific crime. The film follows Lucy as she finds out the truth behind the allegations against her husband while protecting his son. Kreutzer made the film from Lucy’s perspective, focusing on her disturbed state of mind.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kreutzer shared, “What was very important for me from the beginning was that this couple would feel like they could be my friends. I could feel close to them. I could identify with them — as opposed to the stereotypes we very often have in mind when it comes to pedocriminals and how they live and commit their crimes.” He added, “These perpetrators are everywhere. It’s not just the creepy guy hiding behind the corner.”
Kreutzer also shared that he was impressed with Seydoux, as most of the film was shot in German. He said, “What I really loved about Léa is that she’s unconventional herself – she’s really a free spirit. She questioned a lot of things, and we discussed a lot of things, but she never questioned Lucy’s actions.”
The film first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2026. It is set to release in theatres on October 30, 2026, and will be streaming on Netflix from November 18, 2026.
