Officers patrolling French beaches lack training and proper equipment, a police leader has said, despite hundreds of millions of British taxpayers' pounds being handed over to France. Marc Alegre of the Unité police union, which represents officers in Calais and Dunkirk, said cash had been spent on the wrong type of vehicles. He added that officers allocated to the beach patrols from other parts of the country lack training to do the job effectively.
